one thing that surprised me shortly after joining this site was the number of individuals who, after experiencing the deception of being a jw and the hypocrisy of the “truth”, switched to being catholic or “born-again” evangelists.
it seemed to me like jumping from the hot pan into the fire.. i don’t want to piss anyone off for his or her choices.
i feel everyone is free to believe what they may.
Then there is also the vast group that decided to throw out the baby with the diry bath water.
You know, the ones that left the Org 'cause it was so bad, so wrong, so crazy, and now their lives are soooo crappy! They would've done so much better following the JW life.
There is this cat in a suburb of Tampa, FL, that is currently homeless and heavily drug/alcohol addicted. He was doing so well inside, but decided to start hanging out with a childhood buddy that just happened to use drugs recreationally and gave him a taste of it.
Dude lost his marriage, got kicked out of the Org, is a total mess.
There are so many like him too. For some, remaining a JW helps them to have a better life.

They say a lot of stuff, then the normal, reasonable JW person picks and chooses carefully according to the life they want for themselves.
As much as the WTBTS opposes higher education, all in our family and many others in the cong are all either attending college or making arrangements to attend once they graduate high school.
As much as they rant on not attending prom, our graduates in my family are attending.
Times are changing. The WTBTS is not as relevant, not many 'orthodox' JWs inside anymore. People are tired of nonsense.

The book we study currently is pretty crazy: The Kingdom is ruling, but... invisibly.

ok, so i've just put myself through another months broadcast so i can see what bull they're feeding my still in relatives.
all was going fine... well, i say fine, i mean the usual cheesy videos, rehearsed reactions from jeffrey jackson (you remember him, the one who told half truths and lies at the royal commission) and propaganda from jw land.. the last feature brings up 9/11 and the paris 2015 attack at the bataclan.
just as im thinking "how are they gonna spin this in their direction" i hear these words:.
Watched May broadcast as well. No outrage here. Same old JW rhetoric.
Cheesy video. However, understood it just fine: Orthodox JWs choose to keep company with their own whenever possible.
Hey, if they find happiness living this way, then, let them.
By the same measure, plenty of other JWs mix to a degree with non-JWs and are just as happy.

In the Spanish side, couples are having their kids. All of us JWs in the Cong are very happy for them and very nicely celebrated the proper baby showers.
As a culture, we are not big in the WTBTS retorich of refraining from having a family. Blood relatives are paramount among Hispanics!!!

when we look at the total universe imagine a jar of sand.
just one grain of sand would be our galaxy so we may be able to see our earth with an electron microscope.
with that in mind, it always made we cringe when at the meetings an elder would say "jehovah has prepared a spiritual banquet for us tonight," or "it makes jehovah happy that we made the effort to attend the meeting tonight.
Have you seen how extremely small earth is in relation to the vast universe?!!!
We are a huge NOTHING!!! So, these biblical expressions that anything we flawed humans say or do make God happy or sad are just plain NUTS!!!

i read on another thread how this site has helped another user and that for them it has been a form of therapy.. for me yes, jwn has most certainly been a form of therapy.. i recall the days i first came to jwn (in 2004) and couldn't believe i had found people who were of the same opinion as myself in regards to the society.
it was this site that led me to reading ray franz's book 'crisis of conscience' which i read twice within a week.
it also led me to jw facts that goes into every nook and cranny regarding the society's teachings, policies and history.. note: i also visit many other sites and watch you tube videos a lot, but gravitate here most of the time.. coming here to express my inner most thoughts and feelings has helped me no end and allows me to overcome my frustrations.
Good for venting when I cannot air my frustrations about the WTBTS anywhere and with anyone else.

just a heads-up that i will be testing some updates this evening.. the nature of the changes means it's difficult to test every scenario in advance offline (translation: it's a lot more effort and i just can't be bothered) so i'm going to go with the "wing-it" approach:.
deploy, check for errors, try to fix errors before anyone else notices them.. i can switch between the new and old version pretty quickly so if there are significant issues, i'll rollback and revert the changes while i work on the fixes.
worse case is the pages won't display quite right (dates might be a giveaway) but a full page refresh should fix things.. http://www.refreshyourcache.com/en/home/.

How about deleting old posts.
Some of us have evolved and no longer see things as when we were new here and much younger.
Any chance I could have all my posts older than 3 yrs permanently deleted?!
